Applying the sensor
The FreeStyle Libre 14 day system is a continuous glucose monitoring system consisting of a handheld reader and a sensor worn on the back of the upper arm.
The sensor uses a thin, flexible filament inserted just under the skin to measure glucose every minute.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 is priced at the same price as the FreeStyle Libre 1
Does my medical aid cover the FreeStyle Libre 2?
You will need to contact your Medical Aid Provider to confirm. Most Medical Aids that cover the current FreeStyle Libre 1 will cover the FreeStyle Libre 2. However it is best to confirm with your Medical Aid.
Can I replace my FreeStyle Libre 1 with the FreeStyle Libre 2?
You can not swap out the FreeStyle Libre 1 for the FreeStyle Libre 2. You will need to get a new prescription from your prescribing doctor for the Freestyle Libre 2.
You will need to place a new order for the FreeStyle Libre 2 and cancel your existing FreeStyle Libre 1 repeats.
1. The FreeStyle LibreLink app is compatible with NFC enabled phones running Android OS 5.0 or higher and with iPhone 7 and higher running OS 11 and higher
2 . The FreeStyle LibreLink app and the FreeStyle Libre reader have similar but not identical features. A finger prick test using a blood glucose meter is required during times of rapidly changing glucose levels when interstitial fluid glucose levels may not accurately reflect blood glucose levels or if hypoglycaemia or impending hypoglycaemia is reported by the FreeStyle LibreLink app or when symptoms do not match the LibreLink app readings.
